Precious stones are found in earth’s crust and are often used for making jewellery and luxurious artifacts. It takes millions of years to form precious gemstones and the four specific stones that are precious gemstones are diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. All precious stones are translucent and are valued by the richness of their color and clarity except for the diamond, which has a higher value based on being colorless. Precious stones and semi-precious stones are the terms that were used to describe gemstones, which were categorized based on their rarity and quality. Diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds were classified as precious stones, while all other gemstones were classified as semi-precious stones.  It is important to know that their rarity, everlasting beauty and the method in which they are produced all add to the attractiveness of a precious stone.
